New Year’s Resolutions 2016

Sorry to all you New Years Resolution haters, but I’ve been making resolutions every single year and you can’t-stop-won’t-stop me now! Here are five of mine for MMXVI:

1. NAIL BITING IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH.

Maybe if I say this to myself enough times I can actually have pretty nails to paint this year! (Ahh! This might be the toughest one to keep.)

2. Picture imperfect.

Perfection is so pointless. Yet,the pressure to attain the unattainable has been something I have always struggled with. When I think about it, people who are ‘perfect’ actually bother me a lot. So why would I want to be that person? The most beautiful and confident people are the ones who embrace their imperfections. Those are the people I love being around and the person I hope to become someday.

3. Clothes my wallet.

I say this because I. Do. Not. Need. Any. More. Clothes. Must I really collect enough pants to complete the color wheel or purchase every shade of jean wash at American Eagle? No. I also do not need anymore sweaters, cardigans, or button ups. (Even though I do love those.) Thrift stores have become the death of me, mainly because River Falls has FOUR. Clothes are like most things on earth:  no matter how much you have, you never seem to have enough. Heck, people hardly notice if I wear same sweatshirt three days in a row anyways. Therefore, I am saying “no más” and saving my money for much more important things–like whip cream on lattes.Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

4. Give 110%.

Next semester I decided to take 18 credits. Yes, I might be regretting that decision by the time February comes around. But with a new year comes a new me, right? So I’m hoping this ‘new me’ can figure out how to balance school work with the rest of her life. But seriously, this year I really want to work hard and give 110% to everything I do. Because even if I do my best and fail, there is absolutely nothing more I could’ve done.

5. Honesty is the best policy.

I’m sick of sugar coating and pretending. Don’t we get enough of that with social media, advertisements, and layers of makeup? Honesty is like putting on glasses. We can breathe a sigh of relief because the truth makes everything clear. There is no need to squint and stumble through a blurry fog of lies. I am going to try and be more honest this year. Not only with others, but with myself as well. Because I think we all know that the biggest and ugliest lies are those we tell ourselves.

And that’s that! Thank you for reading. Of course, we don’t have to wait for January 1st to start over or start something new:

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

-Lamentations 3:22-23

Hope you have a very Happy New Year!
