rescued from worry.

 You know what we do a lot? We build a raft. A really great raft. Because we heard a flood is coming.

But we also heard that God will come to rescue us—that he has a boat and will take us to safety.

We haven’t seen him though. And since we haven’t seen him or his boat, it’s really hard to trust that he will ever come.

Hence why we built the raft. Just in case God doesn’t show up. Because it’s better to be safe than sorry, right?

I’ve found myself here often. Actually, I’ve become quite the raft-maker. Here are just a few of mine:

• “I’m so worried about my classes.”
• “I can’t do anything; I am a poor college student.”
• “But what if no one likes me?”
• “The future is scary because I have no clue what I’m doing.”

Sound familiar? Let’s hear what our man Jesus has to say.

“I tell you this: Do not worry about your life…” Matthew 6:25

Some things in the Bible aren’t very straightforward or clear. But this verse is like Jesus is shaking you with both hands on the shoulders shouting, “Do not worry! Do not build a raft of worry because I have a boat of hope. I will save you!”

We worry when we don’t completely trust in God with the rescue mission. Friend, the flood will come but God will never let you drown. Sometimes it feels like he is taking forever, but remember that his timing is perfect. The flood forces your faith to grow and the struggle makes you stronger. So hang in there, okay? In the meantime,

“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called his…” Ephesians 1:18

Let His light fill your heart with confident hope. Not with worry. Not with doubts. Not with yourself. Not with fear. Jesus didn’t save the world so we would constantly be weighed down by it. We are rescued from worry. We are rescued to live!  To be fearless and bold. With that kind of hope to excite us, nothing holds us back. (2 Corinthians 3:12)

Trust that God will give you wisdom for your classes. Trust in God’s wild plan for your future. Trust in God’s usually-frustrating-but-always-perfect timing. Trust that, wherever you are reading this, that it is the place God wants you to be. And then you are free to live.

Worrying doesn’t change the past, can’t control the future, and won’t make right now any better. If you are on a worry raft, abandon ship and trust that you have already been rescued—because you have.
