Word for 2015: Perseverance

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 presetMy mom decided to give me a word for 2015. She chose on perseverance. I was unsure at first but I think it’s interesting and now I am constantly noticing the word in conversations, books, and songs.

These last couple months of my life have been a battle. A real emotional roller coaster. I’ve had to learn that I am not the one in control of my future anymore. God is. I have to not only put my trust in him, but persevere through the worry, fear, doubts, loneliness, and pain.

“Yet we rejoice in our suffering because we know that suffering produces perseverance…perseverance character…and character hope. And hope will never disappoint us.”
Romans 5:3-5

This verse couldn’t be more perfect. I love the fact that it ends in hope and hope will never disappoint us. But it starts with perseverance. You’ve gotta keep going. keep pushing, keep climbing, keep running, and keep the faith.

I looked up the definition of perseverance in the dictionary.

Perseverance: steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.

So then I looked up the definition of steadfast.

Steadfast: resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering

Other synonyms of steadfast were loyal, faithful, committed, and devoted. So we need to be committed to doing this difficult thing called life. Perseverance isn’t like paying a fee–you do it once and everything is complete afterwards. No, it’s a continual payment. A habit that needs to be formed. A daily prayer that needs to be prayed. In 2015, I am going to work toward perseverance every single day.
